There are two reasons why I teach classic rock guitar and bass- I want to help beginning musicians learn in an enjoyable way,and to also be of aid to those who left the instrument in the closet for a long time,perhaps years,and aid them in healing the wounded inner artist-which will enable them to start playing again. Usually a rock musician quits playing for a variety of reasons-it can be thru disappointment,loss of a loved one,or because of the widely held belief that one must "grow up and be in the real world". That usually means living according to someone else's reality or plan for you,not one that you yourself have chosen. (also known as the dictates of society or what will other people think??) For whatever reason,a good many people have a disdain for rock musicians,unless they're rich and famous....then the money they're making validates the fact they make their way in the world playing rock music. I'm not about fame- I'm about living a healthy prosperous lifestyle as a musician....and I want to show you how to live in the same way,following your own personal path. Books by Julia Cameron have been a huge help to me,and while most folks use "The Artists Way", I prefer to have students start working with another title she wrote,called "Finding Water". This book has been out for awhile and can easily be picked up at a bargain price. My favorite used book place online is half.com . Working with this book is mandatory in addition to whichever book I use to teach guitar or bass. Experience has taught me if you don't nurture/heal the artist within,the outer artist isn't going to develop much either. Heal the inner self and all else follows.
